The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Voice Frustration Regarding Size Updates
Members of the platform have expressed outrage after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.
This online marketplace has updated its sizing categories for women's and children's clothes but did not contact all users about the change.
Social Media Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms claiming that product pages now present an altered size classification versus the original listing due to the recalibration.
Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with other platforms.
They have suggested members to examine their items and manually change the size if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.
Size Classification Modifications
Before the change, the measurements included one number and one letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum such as S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement was formerly size 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
User Experiences
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
A different member, located in Scotland, said garments she listed with size 14 tags were appearing on the platform as size 20–22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they may become frustrated," she explained.
Necessary Adjustments
A different user, based in Derby, said she had been left angered by the change as she had to manually change the measurements for "each individual item".
"This situation is especially annoying, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount after experiencing income reduction," she explained.
Marketplace Information
The app has more than 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time where an unanticipated change to the app has proved unpopular: last year, the platform withdrew an update to its shipping options after backlash from users.
